Abstract

This research has the objective to understand how the traditional knowledges and practices of indigenous societies from Amazon Rainforest (State of Grão-Pará and Maranhão) were adapted in a colonial context for the needs of settlers and missionaries, in the exploitation of the Amazon's Rainforest resources, know as "Gêneros" from the hinterlands. This follows and examine evidences that ranges from the 1670s, when the settlers had a incentive by the Portuguese Royal Crown to begin a systematic cultivation of native plants; until the end of the 18th century, looking for changes in the agricultural activities, caused by "Pombaline Reforms".
