Abstract

Mother-infant interaction is extremely important in the first years of life, and may or may not promote the infant's motor, cognitive, social and emotional development, depending on how this interaction develops. This bond can be influenced by multiple factors, including the child's disability. The present study aim to describe and compare mother-infant interaction, more specifically the interactive behaviors of the dyad, considering the presence or absence of developmental delays or disabilities. This is a case-control study, in which 16 dyads will participate, divided into two groups. Group 1 will be made up of 8 mothers and infants with developmental delays and/or disabilities identified or in the process of investigation (case group), while group 2 will be made up of 8 mothers and infants without developmental delays and/or disabilities (control group). Participants will be identified in databases from two projects and mother-child interaction data will be accessed, corresponding to the observation with five minutes of free interaction between the dyads. To analyze mother-infant interaction, the Protocol for coding maternal/paternal and infanft interactive behaviors - Interadíade - will be used. This protocol allows maternal and child behaviors to be classified into three categories: positive, negative and non-interactive. Behaviors will be recorded at one-second intervals and the duration of the behaviors will be identified. Comparison analyzes will be conducted between the groups. It is expected that the results will contribute to the planning of interventions focused on promoting parenthood and early childhood.
