Abstract

The present study aims to investigate the social representations of university students regarding abortion, considering that studies that qualitatively address the university population require further exploration. Investigating this university population can contribute to advances in understanding the elements that make up the representations and experiences of these individuals with abortion situations, helping to demystify and enhance the discussion on the subject. For this research, two public institutions in the state of São Paulo were selected, a federal university (UFSCar) and a state university (UNICAMP). For the purposes of this study, we intend to combine the descriptive (quantitative) approach with the qualitative-interpretative approach, organized in two stages. The first stage will be a screening phase (100 participants) through a virtual questionnaire in order to identify and characterize the population to be studied, and the Questionnaire on Values and Beliefs about Sexuality. The analysis of this will be based on the instructions of the instrument itself. Statistical descriptive analyses will be conducted for participant characterization (JASP version 0.17.1 for MacBook). After the screening stage, a qualitative stage is planned with semi-structured interviews and the application of the Word Association Test (TALP), also in a virtual environment. Twenty participants who respond affirmatively to the question "have you experienced or been close to someone who has experienced abortion" will be selected. The data from the second stage will be analyzed using the IRaMuteQ software (Interface de R pour les Analyses Multidimensionnelles de Textes et de Questionnaires). The theoretical framework of the study is the Theory of Social Representations based on Serge Moscovici and Denise Jodelet.
