Abstract

Introduction: The eating act has broad dimensions that involve socio-cultural, historical, political and economic contexts. In a current perspective, it is possible to say that the eating area assumes interdisciplinary qualities, requiring knowledge from several areas, such as Life Sciences, Social Sciences and Food Sciences, to keep its characteristic of complexity. It is recognized, therefore, the need for the professional of Nutrition to bear a holistic, interdisciplinary and humanistic formation to guide their actions and interventions. Objectives: To evaluate the portfolio as a learning and assessment strategy of the "Food and culture" the topic. Methodology: It will be described and analyzed the portfolios of graduates of Nutrition from the Federal University of São Paulo - "Baixada Santista" Campus, who accomplished the module "Human Eating in Historic and Social Contexts" during the first half of 2011. As a complementary research tool, it will be conducted focal groups using a sample of these students. Data analysis: The portfolios analysis will be conducted from the quantitative perspective (number of delivered portfolios, distribution of grades, shapes and rationales used to construct the portfolios) and qualitative (via representations of collective thought, using the collective subject discourse technique). This technique will also be used for further analysis of the discussions derived from the focal groups, aiming to build a picture of the collective imaginary.
