Abstract

The poems in the series "Hinos" (Primeiros and Segundos Cantos), by Gonçalves Dias, favor a painting of nature and, in the midst of it, an approach to loneliness, death and God, motifs that tend to merge in the aforementioned series. The research intends to analyze some of these poems, considering the unique way in which, when creating this painting, the poet appropriates Longinus' and Kant's theories about the sublime and the beautiful. If necessary and on a secondary level, the research will also rely on the theory of ekphrasis, explored in several scholars of classical literature and present in romantic poets, such as Gonçalves Dias and Castro Alves.
