Abstract

This project aims to think about the sensibilities, feelings and subjectivities expressed in the relationships between the figurations of the other, the domestic space and the contemporary urban environment through the urban corpographies of fear, based on Argentine and Brazilian cinema after the 2000s. The central hypothesis is that this cinematography, by appropriating elements of the horror genre, and in its configuration of social horror, intends to highlight, more than an expression of social and urban conflicts, a contemporary urban way of living configured within the intensification of discourse on violence and the institution of new spatial logics. The horror, in this way, would be used as a mechanism for demystifying an apparent harmony between social classes, present as an interpretation in both countries. Will be considered, a priori, the Brazilian films "Trabalhar cansa" (2011), "O som ao redor" (2012), "Casa grande" (2015), "Que horas ela volta?" (2015), "Aquarius (2016)", "As boas maneiras" (2017), the fictional short film "Recife frio" (2009) and the episode "Mancha" from the miniseries "Histórias (Im)possíveis (2023); and the Argentines "Cara de queso 'mi primer ghetto" (2006), "Una semana solos" (2007), "El hombre de al lado" (2009), "Las viudas de los jueves" (2009), "Historia del Miedo" (2014), "Reimon" (2014) and "Los decentes" (2016).
