Abstract The construction of virtual environments for emulation and detection of DDoS attacks enables controlled analysis of the impacts of this malicious activity, avoiding damage to people and services offered in network environments. Through tools such as docker and kubernetes, it is possible to emulate networks in virtual environments segregated from the network environments used by people and companies, making it possible to carry out experiments involving attacks in a secure manner. Since the activities carried out in the context of the MENTORED project depend on the knowledge and use of these tools, their contribution is relevant for evaluating the quality of existing detection and prediction mechanisms, and also for reducing the costs of purchasing and implementing equipment. This scientific initiation project aims to analyze how the use of network environment virtualization tools for emulating DDoS attacks affects the process of evaluating the quality of DDoS attack prediction and detection mechanisms created in the MENTORED project.
