Abstract

Green areas can bring, in general, countless social, environmental and economic benefits to the place where they are located. These factors contribute directly and effectively to improving the quality of life of the population and to the environmental quality of the ecosystems included in this area. quite. In this context, the present work aims to survey and characterize the potential ecosystem services provided by three of the most important forest remnants located in the municipality of Campinas/SP: Mata Ribeirão Cachoeira, ARIE (Area of Ecological Interest) Mata de Santa Genebra and Mata do Quilombo, in order to expand the discussion on the importance of preserving and conserving these ecosystems inserted in the urban environment, promoting theoretical and practical basis on the possible ecosystem functions promoted by forest remnants, through data collected on site, bibliography and support from software. The work will be done in a comparative way, and in the future, after validating the methodology, other important remnants for the municipality will be included, promoting analyzes regarding the interactions that exist between the ecological functions attributed to natural ecosystems, such as climate regulation, the cycling of nutrients, soil conservation and infiltration, regulations in the hydrological cycle, among others, as social functions provided by these spaces.
