Abstract

Cancer constitutes a relevant group of diseases that still exhibit high incidence rates, demonstrating variation in the representativity of its subcategories depending on the social segment considered. Focusing on the population segment represented by women, breast cancer receives special attention, being responsible for high mortality rates and a target of substantial investments from the healthcare sectors. The directed effort towards the development and improvement of treatments has yielded positive results, but they have not proven sufficient to halt the progression of the disease. In this scenario, a deepening of investigations into the cellular pathways associated with its development is estimated, including the characterization of the function of oncogenic potential genes, such as the SIVA1 gene. Recently discovered, SIVA1 is associated with events like apoptosis, migration of certain cell lines, cytoskeletal dynamics, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition. The possibility of its use as a chemotherapy enhancer and as an interferent in the invasiveness and malignancy of breast cancer cells has been raised. The study of its functions would be beneficial as it could assist in refining treatments and classifications of these cancer, potentially driving updates in the diagnostic system collectively.
