Abstract

The breast cancer is the most common tumor in dogs and its biological behavior is similar to what occurs in women with this bitches can be an excellent natural model for studies in oncology compared this type of neoplasia. The discovery of proteins with predictive value is important as therapeutic targets specific for each type of cancer. This study aims to evaluate the gene and protein expression of COX-2 and c-KIT, by the methods of RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry to verify the predictive potential of these proteins in breast cancer in female dogs. Protein expression of COX-2 has been evaluated and correlated with the malignancy of breast cancer in dogs and women, however, the gene expression of this enzyme is still poorly investigated. Since the gene and protein expression of c-kit in mammary tumors in dogs have not been investigated in human medicine, and there have been controversial reports of the normal expression of c-KIT and a decrease in its expression in breast tumor progression process. As a result, a better exploitation of the mechanisms of interaction of genes of COX-2 and C-KIT with their proteins could result in a greater understanding of their roles in the carcinogenic process of mammary neoplasms in bitches and possible signs as a therapeutic target. To do so will be formed six groups: G1 = normal breasts, without breast cancer (n = 10), G2 = mammary gland adenomas (n = 10), G3 = non-metastatic breast carcinomas (n = 20) and G4 = metastatic breast carcinomas (n = 10) = G5 complex non-metastatic carcinomas (n = 10) and G6 = complex metastatic carcinomas (n = 10). The results will be evaluated for the presence of each marker in the tissue, its relation to biological behavior and histological type of neoplasm, presentation of recurrence and / or metastases by the method of analysis of variance. Expected to be able to indicate what type of treatment best suited to the tumor types studied.
