Abstract

The rapid spread of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria has become a global public health problem. Although antimicrobial resistance (AMR) receives greater attention in hospitals, its dissemination and evolution in the environment has gained notoriety. The environment is considered a reservoir and disseminator of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria and antimicrobial resistance genes. Furthermore, the interaction of environmental microbiota and bacteria from contamination causes the emergence of multidrug-resistant bacteria in this sector, which can spread to other sources. Therefore, the present research project aims to isolate and identify antimicrobial-resistant bacteria in environmental samples. In this regard, it is expected to identify the main bacterial species resistant to antimicrobials in environmental samples and improve the understanding of AMR.
