Abstract

This research project aims to identify the social values attributed to areas of the Assis - SP railway complex in order to contribute to the improvement of current public policies for heritage preservation. From the dialogue with the concept of cultural heritage, from a memorialist perspective and from authors who deal with the theme (HALBWACHS, 1990, POLLAK, 1992, ARANTES, 1984, CHOAY, 2001, MENESES, 2006) we intend to analyze the relationship of the population with the object, identifying their memories, interactions, cultural meanings attributed and the uses and reuses given to these areas. Starting from the idea presented in the Burra Charter (ICOMOS/AUSTRÁLIA, 1999), we will seek to analyze how community involvement can help maintain the material aspect of heritage as well as elements related to memory. To this end, field collection will be carried out based on interviews with residents surrounding the Railway Complex. The methodological procedures adopted, such as Oral History and the Heritage Valuation Approach (AVP), will allow us to achieve the expected results, such as mapping which and why certain spaces have values and meanings that relate to memory. We believe that research can bring contributions to the area because in addition to bringing innovative methodologies, it will also allow us to compare objects in the future, ensuring the exchange of different memorial narratives and actions aimed at preserving heritage.
