Abstract

In this project, we propose to develop mixed integer programming models and solution methods for production planning problems in the food industry and logistical problems in the sugarcane industry. In the food industry, we consider integrated lot sizing, scheduling and distribution problems envolving perishable products. In this production environment, scarce productive resources need to be synchronized among multiple production lines. In the sugarcane industry, we consider scheduling harvest fronts problems, in order to determine the areas to be harvested respecting the available capacity of the fronts and of the vehicles used to flow production, as well as the movement of resources shared among different fronts. To deal with these problems, we will develop mathematical models and solution approaches exploring different decomposition techniques. Moreover, we will investigate hibrid methods exploring machine learning techniques.
