Abstract

Sugarcane has been increasingly used in the nutrition of ruminants, due to itshigh productivity especially in winter, when pastures suffer fromseasonality. The need to make daily cuts creates a large limitoperational. As a result, sugarcane silage becomes a good option forlivestock producers. Although nutritional quality and fermentative profile are notdesirable, the use of additives has been increasingly explored in animal nutrition, aiming to inhibit the growth of yeast, increase aerobic stability and the valuenutritional value of sugarcane silage. The objective of this work is to evaluate the effect of oil levelscitrus essential oil in sugarcane silage and how it will influence fermentation,so that it improves the quality of silage, increases the aerobic stability of the materialenabling greater digestibility and animal performance, in addition to modulating the microbiotarumen, inhibiting methane emissions. 32 experimental silos will be built, will be allocated in a randomized block design. The four treatments to beevaluated will be: dose of D-limonene: 0; 250; 500 or 750 mg/kg-1 DM. Assessment ofaerobic stability, chemical analysis, and in vitro digestibility will be performed to evaluatesilage quality, and in vitro gas analysis for methane quantification. It is expected in thiswork to define the dosage of d-limonene for sugarcane silage and its effect on the evaluated parameters.
