Abstract

Bioclimatic performance refers to the ability of a system, material, or structure to maintain suitable conditions for the homeostatic balance of human beings in a given environment. Active strategies include reducing heat, increasing energy efficiency, decreasing vehicle use, and altering urban form to minimize heat gain. The correlations between air temperature and land use parameters majorly impact urban planning. A valuable method for understanding these relationships is the transect, a cross-section of the terrain crossing different types of natural and built environments, from more urbanized to less rural areas. By dividing the landscape into distinct zones, the transect allows for a more in-depth understanding of the transitions and relationships between areas of different characteristics, such as rural, suburban, urban areas, and urban centers. Knowledge territories are urban areas that develop around teaching and research institutions. These areas are characterized by higher education institutions, research centers, high-tech companies, and other organizations committed to innovation. They are considered essential areas for developing intelligent and sustainable city-states, which seek to strengthen innovation, creativity, and cooperation between industry and the local community. This research aims to identify, map, and understand the applications of technologies for improving the thermal performance of urban spaces and use the case study of the new territories of knowledge in T3 zones of the transect as a methodology. This work will likely encourage the development of the urban proposal for the HIDS, supporting the reflection and production of CEUCI activities, which may be of interest to other cities and regions. In addition, it is hoped to present a detailed analytical overview of the urban proposal of the case units analyzed, focusing on the fundamental aspects for the quality and maintenance of the future life of living beings and the environment.
