Abstract

Through the relationship of influence between social movements and countermovements, the latter being neglected by the field of social movement studies, it becomes essential to understand the action and performance of a countermovement in contemporary times in the face of constant narrative disputes in the public sphere and the impacts that can be caused on the maintenance of participatory citizen values that must be strengthened in democratic societies. In light of this, the objective of this research aims to understand the articulations between countermovements, specifically feminist countermovements, and participation processes in the North American context. Specifically, the objectives are: to investigate studies and theoretical and methodological references regarding the concept of social countermovements in the United States; to map existing feminist countermovement initiatives; to identify the communication dynamics of these initiatives to mobilize audiences around their agendas. To this end, we propose carrying out a bibliographical research to bring the researcher closer to the country's scientific literature and carrying out in-depth interviews with North American researchers, which will provide support in achieving the proposed objectives. We believe that the experience abroad, together with these aforementioned research stages, can bring us important contributions to the research project developed in Brazil entitled "Communication and action repertoire of social movements and countermovements feminist in society in mediatization", as well as presenting a new panorama of the relationship between media and countermovements.
