Abstract

Due to the practice of physical exercise and its benefits, resistance training (RT) has proven to be an interesting tool for various purposes, having variables such as intensity and volume, which can be manipulated to promote better results for the practitioner. Therefore, bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), widely used in body composition assessments, and more specifically, localized BIA (L-BIA), has been proposed to analyze the impact of TR through its evaluative parameters, mainly in the elderly and athletes, but little explored in young adults. In this sense, in order to better understand the impact of these critical variables and analyze their modulations acutely, the present study aims to compare the L-BIA parameters in training sessions carried out in different training volume zones (1 to 3 and above 15 repetitions) and different intensities (65% and 95% of a maximum repetition) in young adults. To do this, we will recruit a sample of 29 physically active adult men aged between 18 and 40 to perform RT sessions in different training volumes and intensity zones. The training program will consist of knee extension training sessions, which will be distributed based on the randomization of volume and intensity proposals, where two sessions will occur in repetition zones stipulated by the percentage of the maximum repetition and two with repetitions up to failure. The participants' 1RM test will be performed using protocols described in the literature. L-BIA parameters will be measured using electrical bioimpedance, using a 50 kHz frequency analyzer. Resistance and reactance measurements will be obtained to calculate the phase angle. Electromyographic analysis and maximal isometric voluntary contraction will be performed at the same moments as L-BIA assessment. Assessments will be carried out pre-training, post-training, and after training, at 3, 5, 10, 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes, in addition to assessments 24 and 48 hours later. Analysis of variance for repeated measures will be used to compare values according to moment and assessment models, and linear regression will be used to analyze the correlation between L-BIA and electromyography variables. Confidence ellipses will be performed to analyze the shifts in L-BIA values from pre-training to other moments. For all statistical analyses, significance of p < 0.05 will be accepted.
