Abstract

The investigation of control techniques of quantum system has been attracting growing attention due to the progress in the development of new quantum technologies, such as the quantum computers. The control is usually performed by means of an external electromagnetic radiation, such as laser pulses, with the goal of guide the system from an initial state towards a target state. One of the central problems faced by quantum computing is that the computational system is not completely isolated and interacts in an unwanted way with the environment, causing loss of informaion. The current research project intends to study the control of a two-level quantum system, which stands as the fundamental quantum unit of information, the qubit, under the influence of dissipation caused by the environment. In order to perform the control, we will apply reserve engineering techniques which aims to find analytic expressions for the control fields once the system dynamics is fixed. The work has as it starting point recent investigations that use reverse engineering for the control of the populations. Our goal will be to find control fields that control not only the population dynamics but also the coherences. The development of this project will allow the enhancement of the computational and theoretical skills of the candidate by means of an investigation of a paradigmatic system for several areas of Physics and still with potential for new discoveries.
