Abstract

The proposal for an internship abroad arises from the ongoing research entitled "Inter-escalar spatial interactions in the urban-regional context of the medium-sized city of Maringá/PR" (process number: 2023/09078-4), linked to the thematic project "Socio-spatial fragmentation and Brazilian urbanization: scales, vectors, rhythms, forms, and contents" (process number: 2018/07701-8), both approved by the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP). The proposal aims to understand the recent processes of urban network restructuring in Spanish and Brazilian cities, starting from the identification of socio-spatial inequalities resulting from increasingly inter-scalar and complex differentiations. Finally, the research aims to conduct a comparative analysis of official and unofficial studies carried out in both countries, advancing a deeper understanding of the urban system and the role of medium-sized cities in the international and territorial division of labor.
