Abstract

The complexity of urban transformations, from the 1970s onwards, presents an intertwining of political, economic, social and cultural aspects in the production and transformation of space. One of the elements in this dialogue between the production of urban space and spatial practices is the moral aspect associated with the illicit drug economy and its influence on the production of particular spatialities. Through ethnographic fieldwork and semi-structured interviews, this project aims to identify the relationships between the use of illicit substances in public spaces, illegality (and its moral aspect) and fragmentary socio-spatial logic, contributing to the continuous and necessary updating and delineation of the concept of socio-spatial fragmentation in a Latin American urban context. It is expected to expand the scope of the concept of socio-spatial fragmentation and verify or reject the hypothesis that this process is also underway in Colombian cities such as Bogotá and Medellín.
