Abstract

The negative impacts on the environment resulting from a non-sustainable model of production have been promoting importants reflections from the sustainability point of view. To the fashion industry, one of the most pollutants, these discussions are even more necessary in the face of the high seasonality promoted by the fast fashion model and the volume of residues generated. In this context, this research has as its objective to analyze the positive impacts created by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that work with textile residue reuse from the social and enviromental perspective. Therefore, this research is a qualitative-quantitative one and will first conduct a multiple case study in two NGOs from São Paulos municipality that work with textile residue reuse. The case study will triangulate the data using the subjects of the research and the instruments of data collection, and the analysis will apply descriptive statistics, using the data collected in the forms, pattern comparison, explanation construction, and documental analysis. Subsequently, this reasearch will verify the environmental impact regarding CO2 emission, water use, and water and soil contamination. For this analysis, we will utilize the midpoint Life Cycle Assessement (LCA). As a result, it expected to contribute to the advancement of theoretical knowledge and offer evidence that can attest to the relevance of the initiatives that work with the circular economy. We also intended that the results can be used to promote reflections about the need to think the fashion industry and consequently, the consumption of their products in a sustainable perspective.
