Abstract

The post-doctoral project aims to adapt multi-criteria analyses, develop synthetic indicators and propose a vulnerability analysis methodology for the context of climate justice. The project will involve participatory research with the local population in the municipality of São Vicente. The Post-doc will develop a socio-climatic vulnerability analysis model and develop models for incorporating vulnerability analysis into urban climate risk analysis. The postdoc will adapt multi-criteria analysis methods to select climate adaptation and resilience measures and develop a system of climate justice indicators adapted for citizen collection. In addition, the postdoc will be instrumental in the scientific dissemination of the results of the CoP4Justice project. The successful candidate will work within a broad, interdisciplinary framework involving researchers from national and international institutions. The work to be carried out will contribute to achieving the objectives of the larger project, which is entitled: "CoP4Justice -Co-planning for climate justice in the municipality of São Vicente: developing tools for territory-based decision-making with scientific and community evidence". The objectives of the post-doctorate are linked to the development of the tools described in Stages 3, 6 and 8 of the CoP4Justice proposal. Specifically, the candidate will work on adapting multi-criteria analysis, the development of synthetic indicators and vulnerability analysis to the context of climate justice. The candidate will be responsible, in collaboration with other teams, for achieving the following objectives: a) Developing a socio-climatic vulnerability analysis model. b) Developing a methodology for incorporating the results of socio-climatic vulnerability analysis into urban climate risk assessments c) Adapting multi-criteria analysis methods for selecting climate adaptation and resilience measures d) Developing a climate justice indicator system adapted for citizen collection. To achieve the objective of developing a socio-climatic vulnerability analysis model, the successful candidate will be expected to carry out the following activities: develop a valid and reliable list of indicators (of sensitivity and adaptive capacity) and measure them in order to classify geographical units of various sizes and levels according to their vulnerability to specific natural disasters. Different sets of indicators should be applied to different types of natural hazards (e.g. floods, earthquakes, landslides, droughts, etc.) in situations where it is considered that social vulnerability to these hazards is different in specific cases. However, the same sets of indicators can be applied to geographical units, regardless of their size, aggregating the values of social vulnerability indicators. At the end, the study should produce a map with the classification of geographical units according to their level of social vulnerability.
