Abstract

This report is a proposal for my application for the BEPE Exchange Fellowship, part of my FAPESP Post-Doctoral Fellowship. The period proposed is December 15th of 2023 to December 15th of 2024. My goal is to spend a year working along Prof. Dr. Luca Gasperini, jointly at the University of Bologna and at The Institute of Marine Sciences of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR-ISMAR). The University of Bologna is the oldest university in the world and the 2nd largest in Italy while the CNR-ISMAR is the leading institution for marine research in Italy. More importantly, Dr. Luca Gasperini is a research director at CNR-ISMAR and a leader in the field of Marine Geology and Geophysics. For this period in Italy, I plan to develop three articles (and to finish two), described below: (P1) Formation of South Atlantic Terraces linked to NADW onset in the Miocene; (P2) Dating marine strata with seismic stratigraphy - a new method based on high-resolution seismic data; (P3) Formation and evolution of the main deltas of northeastern Brazil. In addition, this period in Europe will allow me to participate in multiple academic conferences and exchange activities (detailed below) and to visit scientific peers in Germany and in Portugal as part of P2. I have already discussed the research plan with Dr. Luca Gasperini and he was enthusiastic about of the ideas and planned activities.
