Abstract

This project aims to reflect on virginity as a topic suitable for gender discussions. To this end, we have delimited the theme to discourses produced in "The Bridgerton Series" (2000-2013), a period romance collection, and fanfictions derived from this canonical material. Affiliated to the theoretical-methodological device of French Discourse Analysis, concepts to be mobilized are those of discursive subject, interdiscourse and intradiscourse, conditions of production, discursive formation, paraphrase and polysemy. The discursive corpus includes clippings from the "The Bridgerton Series" (2000-2013) and fanfiction available in digital media. With this, we aim to investigate the functioning of the tension between stabilization and displacement of effects of meaning on female virginity in these contemporary editorial objects, supported by different conditions of production.
