Abstract

The present work aims to analyze the architectural characteristics present in the buildings designed by Francisco de Paula Ramos de Azevedo, an architect from São Paulo who was very important for the construction of large eclectic and neoclassical works between the 19th and 20th centuries. This analysis will be carried out using as a case study two construction complexes: the Caetano de Campos State School in the city of São Paulo and the first State Schools in the city of Itapetininga, observing in each one the characteristics present regarding their facades, their plants , its construction techniques, the materials used, the ornamentations, among other elements that comprise the neoclassical architectural style used in its construction. A comparison between the buildings will then be carried out, seeking to understand the aspects that led to their construction at very close dates, in very close locations and with very similar characteristics, in a study that takes great account of the historical context in which the buildings were built. built - period of expansion of Normal Schools throughout the State of São Paulo after the Proclamation of the Republic, in an economic rise in São Paulo due to the large production of coffee. Thus, throughout this work, studies will be carried out that concern the historical period and the general constructions of schools at the time, the architectural style of Ramos de Azevedo with a focus on the elements used in his school buildings and the aforementioned works, Caetano de Campos and the Three Schools of Itapetininga.
