Prevalence of molar-incisor hypomineralization in Araraquara and analysis of associated factors: longitudinal follow-up of 5 years

Abstract

Molar-Incisor hypomineralization is an enamel defect that affects first permanent molars and incisors, with prevalence ranging between 2.8 and 25%. The possible etiological factors are often associated with systemic changes and environment, with the possibility of genetic involvement. There are no studies published on the prevalence of MIH compared longitudinally in the same locality; what we can find are specific prevalence studies and comparisons between different locations. Thus, the aim of this novel study will assess the prevalence and severity of MIH in children from public and private schools in the city of Araraquara-SP and compare them with data from the first study prevalence held for 5 years; and correlate MIH with possible factors risk. Clinical examination of the 1084 primary schools, aged 6 to 12 years will be made to the registry the MIH, following the same methodology of the Jeremias's study (2010). During the epidemiological survey other indexes will also evaluated: DMFT, dmft, DDE and FD. Two semi-structured questionnaires will be sent to parents/guardians of students in order to identify the socio-economic profile and information about gestational medical history of the mother and child during the first years of life. The data will be evaluated and tabulated in SSP software (17.0) and analyzed using the descriptive statistical with significance level of 0.05. (AU)
