Abstract

In the last decades, there has been a significant growth in the commercialization ofpsychotropic drugs in Brazil, reflecting global trends in mental health treatments. Many authorsperceive the "epidemic" of psychiatric drugs as a contemporary strategy of commodifyingmadness, but closely linked to the disciplinary past of dominant psychiatry. In response to thisexpansion of the neoliberal model centered on psychiatric drugs, techniques for addressingdistress aimed at desmedicalization have been studied and implemented worldwide. In thissense, the present bibliographical/documentary research project seeks to investigate therelationships between biological psychiatry, the pharmaceutical industry and medicalization inBrazil. The material to be analyzed consists of books and articles in the field of studies on themedicalization and pathologization of life, and the analysis of the results will be done using theBardin method. The literature review will be narrative type. The aim is to deepen understandingof the subject in question and, if possible, add new contributions.
