Abstract

Low voltage microgrids have become an important solution to the problem of energy management in modern electrical networks, as they make it possible to manage electronic power converters (PECs) that interconnect distributed energy resources, such as alternative energy sources and electric vehicles, in a controllable manner. However, advanced studies on microgrids and low voltage electrical networks have recently pointed out an emerging power quality problem, referring to the existence of supraharmonic distortions (i.e., those between 2 kHz - 150 kHz), which result in unwanted interactions between PECs and deteriorate voltage quality. In this project, an study is proposed on the aspects of emission and supraharmonic interaction between PECs connected to a low voltage microgrid, focusing on the perspective of electric vehicle chargers. It is expected that studies will be carried out to investigate the nature of supraharmonic emission by PECs within such a context. Moreover, studies shall be conducted to assess the consequences of supraharmonic interactions between PECs. It is planned that computer simulations shall be conducted to investigate operational situations common to the residential/commercial perspective, striving to contribute to the state of the art regarding the problem of supraharmonic distortions in low voltage electrical systems.
