Abstract

The Amazon, with its vast biodiversity and ecological importance, faces significant pressure due to economic activities such as agriculture and mining, an example of this is the Apyterewa Indigenous Land (TI), approved in 2007, which suffers invasions, deforestation and environmental degradation, a scenario that which is enhanced through government policies and agricultural expansion. To analyze the transition of land use and land cover in the Apyterewa TI over the last 10 years, this study uses Landsat-8 satellite images and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) time series. The objective is to quantify vegetated and non-vegetated areas, correlate results with actions by different federal public administrations and identify types of post-deforestation environmental degradation. The methodology uses Google Earth Engine to process satellite images and calculate the NDVI monthly, allowing the identification of deforested areas and changes in land use. The analysis of NDVI time series, complemented by data from Embrapa's SatVeg platform, will help to understand the dynamics of deforestation in the Amazon, especially in the Apyterewa TI, illustrating the changes in vegetation in this area.
