Abstract In the area of rehabilitation, the search for materials that combine aesthetics and mechanical resistance has been constant. First and second generation zirconia stood out for having high mechanical resistance, but in terms of aesthetics they fell far short when compared to porcelain and glass ceramics. To try to improve the aesthetics of the material, translucent zirconia was developed, which incorporates a greater amount of yttrium oxide moles (5% in mole) in its composition (Zirconia 5Y-PSZ). The addition of more moles of yttrium made 5Y-PSZ zirconia more aesthetic, but less resistant than previous generations. However, the addition of yttrium has made 5Y-PSZ zirconia more translucent, this translucency is still inferior to the translucency of glass ceramics, so it improves aesthetics, monolithic restorations in translucent zirconia usually receive an application of glaze to obtain a surface more similar to the natural tooth. The present study aims to evaluate, in the long term, the antimicrobial activity, mechanical resistance and aesthetics resulting from the application of two glasses containing silver and boron ions, which will be used as glaze on 5Y-PZS zirconia. 180 zirconia discs will be used with final dimensions of 12mm in diameter and 1.2mm in thickness and divided into two groups according to aging time: SE Group (without aging): with commercial glaze, glass with boron and glass with silver and E6 Group (aged 6 months):with commercial glaze, glass with boron and glass with silver; The discs will be subjected to flexural strength testing and roughness analysis, after applying the glass and six months later, according to the groups. Statistical analysis will be performed using Weibull and ANOVA | |
