Abstract This research develops the relationship between Japanese Surrealism and the dance of darkness (ankoku buto), exposing the connections between the two based on the reflections of Shuzo Takiguchi, poet and bastion of Japanese Surrealism, on the artistic career of Tatsumi Hijikata, creator of but¿ dance. The first chapter is dedicated to examining the trajectory of the surrealist movement from the West to Japan, as well as that of dance, followed by a prologue to Takiguchi and Hijikata. The remaining chapters divide the personal and professional relationship between the dancer and the poet into three moments: first experience, maturation and outcome. Finally, the aim is to prove the fable-like character of but¿ dance, which justifies its perpetuation, as well as of Surrealism as a worldview, even after the updating of the urgencies of their times. | |
