Abstract

The research project proposes to investigate the relationship between shopping compulsiveness and emotional intelligence, specifically focusing on emotional understanding and emotional regulation, within the Brazilian population. The research aims to involve approximately 300 individuals over 18 years old who regularly engage in online shopping. The TOHE and QoRE questionnaires will be used to assess, respectively, emotional understanding and emotional regulation of each participant, and the Richmond scale, which evaluates shopping compulsiveness. The research seeks to contribute to the advancement of psychological science by examining the levels of emotional understanding and emotional regulation among participants engaging in different intensities of online shopping, as well as assisting in establishing diagnostic criteria related to the phenomenon. The study is justified by the significant prevalence of compulsive buying disorder in society and the importance of identifying risk factors for the development of this behavior, which can have negative financial and emotional consequences. It is hypothesized that the levels of emotional regulation and emotional understanding will be inversely proportional to the levels of shopping compulsiveness.
