Abstract

In this project it is proposed an experimental apparatus for generation, control and characterization of magnetic fields with well-defined modulus and orientation, using the assembly of 6 solenoids pairs perpendicularly placed. The electric current applied in the solenoids allows the variation of the modulus and orientation of the field in the center of the device. By the characterization of the field, one can build a 3D map of intensities and orientations. This device will be used for the development of sample holders for the investigation of liquid samples subjected to the action of the magnetic fields, as ferrofluids for example. In addition, this project compounds the development of advanced elements of control and automation of systems that will be used in many other applications. In this way the student will learn several aspects related to control and automation, which are crucial in advanced applications in experimental physics.
