Abstract

Hip osteoarthritis is a health condition that causes pain in the hip joint and gradual loss of functionality. Pericapsular hip nerve block (PENG block), in turn, is a regional anesthesia technique described in 2018 by Girón-Arango et al.(1) for analgesia of the anterior hip capsule. Determining the smallest effective volume for this blockade has not yet been described in the literature, and is essential to reduce the risks inherent to the technique, especially in cases of chemical neurolysis. This is a prospective study that will done at the Hospital das Clínicas da FMUSP and aims to predict the minimum effective volume in 50% (VEM50) and 95% (VEM95) of patients to obtain effective analgesia by performing PENG block in patients with chronic hip pain and who already had a surgical indication for hip arthroplasty.
