Abstract

Objective:To evaluate whether receiving short videos through the WhatsApp® application, containing guidance on the use of the copper intrauterine device (IUD) in the immediate postpartum period by pregnant women during prenatal care, can change their knowledge about the method. Methods:This project is a secondary analysis of an open, parallel, block-randomized clinical trial involving pregnant women who were referred for third-trimester prenatal follow-up at the Women's Health Reference Center of Ribeirão Preto - MATER (CRSMRP-MATER). The trial evaluated whether receiving short videos through the WhatsApp® application, containing guidance on the use of the copper IUD in the immediate postpartum period by pregnant women during prenatal care, could change the rate of copper IUD insertion in the immediate postpartum period at CRSMRP-MATER. In the clinical trial, pregnant women were block-randomized into one of two groups, in a 1:1 ratio: the control group, which received routine prenatal care (weekly consultations with the medical and multidisciplinary team + weekly pregnant women's group conducted by a multidisciplinary team), and the intervention group, which received routine prenatal care (weekly consultations with the medical and multidisciplinary team + weekly pregnant women's group conducted by a multidisciplinary team) along with the delivery of weekly videos from the digital care line about IUD insertion in the immediate postpartum period for up to 8 weeks or until delivery (whichever came first). In this secondary analysis, we will assess whether receiving short videos through the WhatsApp® application, containing guidance on the use of the copper IUD in the immediate postpartum period by pregnant women during prenatal care, can change their knowledge about the method. A knowledge questionnaire about the IUD was applied on the day of randomization and after delivery. This study will compare the knowledge gain between the intervention group and the control group. Additionally, it will assess the satisfaction of pregnant women with the videos received.
