Abstract

Objective: To describe the implementation of the postpartum copper intrauterine device (Cu-IUD) insertion program offered by the Women's Health Reference Center of Ribeirão Preto - MATER (CRSMRP-MATER), as well as the outcomes related to implementation adherence to and quality of the program). Methods: This is a descriptive observational study of the implementation and outcomes of the postpartum copper IUD insertion program offered by the CRSMRP-MATER. The postpartum Cu-IUD insertion program was implemented in September 2018 at the CRSMRP-MATER, with actions starting six months before the postpartum IUD insertion service was offered to pregnancy women. To describe the implementation program, documents from the institution and data from meetings with members of the Board of Directors of the CRSMRP-MATER will be evaluated to obtain data on the implementation process of the Cu-IUD insertion program in the immediate postpartum period. To describe adherence and quality of the implemented program, all medical records of births carried out between September 2018 and September 2023 at CRSMRP-MATER will be evaluated to search for the variables of interest. Data from all births that occurred during this period and which had a post-placental Cu-IUD inserted will be included, regardless of the professional who performed the insertion. The program quality outcomes will be assessed by the annual rates of Cu-IUD expulsion assessed between 4-8 weeks after delivery, the annual rates of absence from the postpartum visit at 4-8 weeks of delivery, rates of IUDs with non-visible strings at 4-8 week postpartum visit, and rates of complications such as perforation and infection at 4-8 weeks postpartum.
