Microscopic evaluation of bone neoformation using different calcium silicate-based cements in rats

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the biocompatibility of reactions in bone tissue to national calcium silicate cements: Cimmo, MTA Repair Hp, Biodentine, White MTA, and MTA HP. Materials and methods: Forty male Wistar rats will be evaluated in two distinct periods: one at 7 days and another at 30 days. The animals will be divided into 5 groups of cements, each composed of 4 rats, plus 2 control groups, one for each period, with 4 animals each. Two cavities will be created in the tibial diaphysis of each rat, with standardized diameter and depth. The materials will be inserted into the cavities aseptically, following the manufacturers' instructions, and the surgical site will then be closed. After 7 and 30 days, the animals will be sacrificed with anesthetic overdose, and the tibias will be excised for histological analysis. The samples will be stained with hematoxylin and eosin to evaluate local inflammatory reactions. Expected results: Variations in inflammatory response between groups are anticipated, evidenced by the differentiated presence of inflammatory cells in samples stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Comparative analysis among different brands of cements will allow the identification of discrepancies in tissue repair efficacy, contributing to validating their effectiveness and safety as endodontic repair materials, with relevant implications for the Brazilian market.
