Abstract

The topic of maintaining historic buildings as one of the best ways to ensure their survival over time has been present in the debate on the preservation of built assets for millennia. The subject gained important contributions in the 19th and 20th centuries and reaches today with new contours, resulting from a new historical context, characterized as preventive conservation. This study seeks to collaborate with the voices that reinforce the importance of research on maintenance and planning to safeguard modern heritage, especially its materiality and authenticity, based on the detailed analysis of the preventive management plans for the concrete buildings of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of São Paulo and the Collegi (student residence buildings) at the University of Urbino, in Italy.
