Abstract

To make up for the lack of Brazilian studies on the literary in cinema from the perspective of Critical Theory, an internship abroad is proposed to fully develop the in-country research project on the film Jogo de Cena (Coutinho, 2007). The internship aims to meet three specific objectives: a) to seek the unity of the film between play and semblance (ADORNO, 2018) and between art and commodity; b) to conceive the intervention of Critical Theory on the literary in cinema and, more specifically, in this film; c) to interpret the simultaneity between fiction and nonfiction in the film to propose a social meaning for its tensions. To achieve those objectives, the methodological procedures establish: a) how narrative, dramatic and poetic aspects are articulated in the film to form a unity; b) how Critical Theory influences the composition of relations between theory and pre-theoretical notions extracted from the film itself in order to reflect critically on reading regimes (between transparency and opacity) and on the relations between literature and cinema; c) how the theoretically informed reading of the material and its reverse (pre-theoretical notions extracted from the material) contribute to testing the scope of the theory itself. As for the expected gains: contact with world references in the field; access to material that is inaccessible in Brazil; and the inclusion of the doctoral student in the international academic circuit. Finally, regarding the dissemination and transfer of knowledge, the following are expected: paper presentations; publication of article in indexed journal; a proposal for an extracurricular course; and the writing of a BEPE final report and a PhD dissertation.
