Abstract

This project for a research internship abroad aims to improve the research that is being carried out, about the surrounding of an A'uwe-Xavante Indigenous Land in Mato Grosso. It is intended to expand the knowledge of methodologies involving indigenous studies with the support of Rosanna Dent, assistant professor in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science, located in the University of Cambridge. She has been coordinating studies involving the Xavante for almost 10 years. Also, she has a broad knowledge of the extensive academic literature involving the ethnic group. Thus, besides the contact with different approaches of research in human and social sciences, also possible by the contact with the groups of study of the department, it will be viable to access the multiple studies that have been realized for more than half a century, since the A'uwe-Xavante stablished permanent contact with the Brazilian government. In addition, the internship will include a technical visit to the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Stirling, under the supervision of Thiago Sanna. He has extensive knowledge of quantitative modeling, spatial analysis, and remote sensing. His guidance will introduce new methodological and analytical procedures that will aid with the elaboration and subsequent analysis of maps of use and occupation of the areas surrounding Pimentel Barbosa Indigenous Land. The development of the work in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science will be essential to the research project, contributing to the quality of the research and the preparation of an article with the results obtained in the internship.
