Abstract

The Blue Amazon defines the region that includes the surface of the sea, waters overlying the seabed, and the marine soil and subsoil within the Atlantic extension that projects from the coast to the outer limit of the Brazilian Continental Shelf. Along with its tropical and subtropical characteristics, oceanographic and climatological conditions confer specific traits that ensure high biological diversity. Therefore, the use and exploitation must be balanced with the conservation of marine biodiversity. One way to seek this compatibility between use and conservation is through an integrated and adaptive governance system, where policies are implemented and have converging objectives. In this sense, this project aims to understand the current state of integration of public policies for biodiversity conservation in Brazil. By mapping the interactions between institutions and sectors both vertically and horizontally (institutional interplay), we seek to identify gaps and overlaps that may encourage more effective management of marine resources and better coordination among the various government agencies involved. The results of this project will be analyzed using specialized software for content analysis and investigation of interactions between strategies. With these results, we aim to contribute to sustainable development in the region, ensuring responsible exploitation of marine resources and preservation of biodiversity for future generations. It is worth noting that this project contributes to the National Institute of Science and Technology for the Biodiversity of the Blue Amazon of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (INCT-BAA).
