Abstract

The present work investigates the potential of bioelectrochemical systems, in particular Microbial Electrolysis Cells (MEC), in hydrogen production from the organic matter present in sugarcane vinasse, an industrial wasteproduct. In a MEC system, the exoelectrogen microbial community will be enriched and later evaluated in terms of hydrogen production and organic matter removal, evaluated through electrochemical methods.
