Abstract

Despite the worldwide decrease in total edentulism, it remains a significant challenge , especially among underprivileged elderly individuals. Thus, complete dentures are still the main treatment choice for this condition.Despite the advancement of Digital Dentistry, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) remains, for now, the primary material used in the manufacture of these rehabilitative devices. Therefore, the literature points to the need for further studies on the quantity and quality of biofilm adhesion on 3D printing resins, especially regarding extracellular polymeric substances (EPS). Therefore, the present project aims to evaluate biofilm formation on three printed resins (Bio Denture - Prizma®; Denture Base Cosmos - Yller®; Smart Print Bio Denture - Smart Dent®) and compare it to biofilm formation on PMMA.For this, 27 circular specimens (Ø20 mm x 3 mm) of Heat Polymerized Resin and 81 circular specimes (Ø20 mm x 3 mm) will be used for for the Extraction and Quantification of Extracellular Polymeric Substances (EPS) from the formed biofilms; and for the Extraction and Quantification of Extracellular DNA (eDNA) from Biofilm EPS. An appropriate statistical model will be used to analyze each of the results obtained, following the exploratory data analysis.
