Abstract

Individuals undergoing oncological treatments often experience loss of taste, affecting their quality of life. Previous studies have indicated that juice from the fruit Sideroxylon dulcificum may aid in the recovery of taste in patients with head and neck cancer. However, information on its safety and toxicity is limited, hindering progress in clinical studies. This study aims to evaluate the safety of S. dulcificum juice in a preclinical study by monitoring the juice profile using chromatographic methods, conducting in vitro studies in both tumor and non-tumor cells, and performing acute toxicity studies in mice. The results of this study will provide data for future non-clinical tests with repeated doses and subsequent clinical studies, aiming to improve the quality of life for oncology patients.
