Abstract

In recent years, several studies have demonstrated the importance of metabolism in the health and disease of people and animals. In addition, the recent development of molecular techniques and the expansion of knowledge that provide metabolic information are also advancing at a rapid pace, thus allowing the sum of these "insights" and a new perspective on the results obtained. These data provide the opportunity to understand the specific role of metabolic pathways and tissue functions and how they respond to or affect different physiological stages and pathophysiological conditions (e.g., obesity, chronic kidney disease, and cancer). Thus, the objective of the present study is to explore the multiomic analysis of the metabolism of healthy and sick dogs and cats, by evaluating and identifying the metabolites produced by the organism through lipidomics and metabolomics, and body composition determined by densitometry through dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). The animals included in this project will be divided into three subgroups according to the comorbidity they present: obesity, chronic kidney disease (CKD), and oral melanoma. Each subgroup will be composed of a total of 40 animals, namely: 10 healthy dogs and 10 cats, and 10 sick dogs and 10 cats.
