Abstract

New resin composites with simplified shade selection, such as Filtek Easy Match Universal Restorative, have emerged on the market and promise to simplify the restorative procedure by mimicking the tooth color of the adjacent dental substrate. The aim of this study is to characterize the chromatic properties of resin composites from the Filtek Easy Match Universal Restorative system (3M Oral Care) after aging by thermocycling. Thus, 60 samples will be made (n = 12) of the resin composites: conventional nanoparticle (Filtek Z350 XT, 3M Oral Care), single-color (Palfique Omnichroma, Tokuyama) and the simplified Filtek Easy Match Universal Restorative system in the shades Natural, Bright and Warm. The samples (Ø6 mm × 2 mm) will be evaluated by reflectance spectrophotometry (CM 700d, Minolta, Osaka, Japan) to determine the CIE L*a*b* system coordinates, translucency (TPab and TP00) and overall color variation (¿Eab and ¿E00). The analyses will be performed in a standardized light booth (GTI MiniMatcher MM 1, Graphic Technology Inc.), with illuminant D65, and under a white (CIE L*a*b*) and black (TPab and TP00) background. Measurements will be performed at times: T0 (baseline, after 24 hours of sample preparation) and T1 (after 10,000 thermocycling cycles). Fluorescence will be assessed by photographs under ultraviolet lighting and quantified with the aid of specialized software (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Systems). The results will be subjected to an exploratory analysis, evaluating the normality, homoscedasticity and distribution of the data, to select the most appropriate statistical test, with a significance level set at 5% (¿ = 0.05).
