Abstract

This PhD project aims to study the dynamics and efficiency of fuel cells, focusing on imaging mass transport using ozone. The goal is to understand the relationship between the spatial distribution of reactants, the morphology of electrodes and mass transport channels, and the electrochemical performance of fuel cells, specifically solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) and polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs). To achieve this, the methodology combines experimental and simulation techniques, with the latter being developed during the BEPE period of the FAPESP fellowship. Initially, techniques such as chemiluminescence imaging and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) will be employed. This study will also facilitate the validation and refinement of computational models, providing a robust foundation for the development of more efficient fuel cells.
