Abstract

Abstract: Economic evaluations play a crucial role in decision-making when incorporating newtechnologies for the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. Shoulder pain is a commonmusculoskeletal condition in Brazil and worldwide, leading to significant costs and a decrease inquality of life. Measuring health-related quality of life using the EQ-5D-3L, EuroQol visualanalogue scale (EQ-VAS) and SF-6Dv1 instruments allows the conversion of patients' healthstates into utility index, which are essential for calculating quality-adjusted life years (QALYs).The clinical outcome based on QALYs is highly recommended by economic evaluationguidelines, as it is a generic measure that enables comparisons across different healthconditions. However, the EQ-5D-3L, EQ-VAS and SF-6Dv1 may yield divergent results in aneconomic evaluation of the same health condition and intervention. Thus, evaluating themeasurement properties of these instruments in different populations is crucial to guidedecisions regarding the most appropriate instrument for economic evaluations. However, in theBrazilian context, there has been no study comparing the utility indices of these instruments inpatients with chronic shoulder pain. Therefore, the primary objective of this study is to assess themeasurement properties and compare the utility indices of the EQ-5D-3L, EQ-EVA, and SF-6Dv1instruments in patients with chronic shoulder pain, with the secondary objective being to identifysociodemographic and clinical variables associated with the utility indices estimated by theseinstruments.
