Abstract

The history of basic sanitation in the city of São Paulo is marked by issues that date back to the 19th century and persist to the present day. The main objective of the research proposal presented here is to understand the spatial relationships between the development of the water and sewage network and other urban phenomena in the city of São Paulo from 1863 to 1930, using concepts and methodologies from digital humanities: geotechnology, collaborative work, and open science. In this way, the research seeks to recover the history of sanitation in the city by adopting an approach that values space as a dimension that produces history.Digital humanities are presented here not only as a methodology but also as an object of study. In this sense, the use of geotechnologies emerges as a fundamental strategy for the collection, analysis, and visualization of georeferenced historical data, contributing both to the understanding of the historiographic issue addressed and to reflecting on the impact of technologies on the construction and free access to knowledge. The Pauliceia 2.0 platform, which is the result of a project funded by FAPESP and coordinated by Luis Ferla, the advisor of the proposed research, is central to this investigation, allowing the spatialization of historical data and facilitating collaboration between researchers.
