Abstract

This research project aims to investigate, through narrative, the socialmemory of elderly individuals, former residents, and ex-workers from the areasurrounding the Assis railway station, seeking to understand the temporal changes thathave taken place in this space. By taking the railway space, located in the urban area ofAssis, as the object of analysis, we can discuss perceptions of aging and its intersectionswith urban life, particularly by examining and comparing present-day issues, whetherthrough thematic studies or life trajectories. This research is exploratory and qualitativein nature, combining participant observation, and is both descriptive and analytical in itsobjectives. It will be conducted through a literature review-covering topics such asmemory, aging, railway heritage, identity, and rootedness-as well as thematic oralhistory interviews, audio recording, and transcription, accompanied by field notes. Webelieve that this research can make valuable contributions to the field, as it offers anopportunity to enhance knowledge and analysis through narratives that reveal the rightto rootedness of the groups involved in these urban spaces of memory and what theseplaces signify in the aging process of individuals, exploring the multiple dimensions oforal history methodology within the context of railway history in the state of São Paulo.
